Meet North Shore Myofascial Release

Meet North Shore Myofascial Release

Tell us about North Shore Myofascial Release and why you started it. My background as a massage therapist working in a pain management practice allowed me to work with clients experiencing various types of pain. However, I often felt frustrated by the limited results from the techniques I learned in massage school. This led me to pursue specialized training in myofascial release for five years. Clients who had struggled with pain for years and tried numerous therapies found lasting relief, better sleep and became more active, doing things they thought they wouldn’t be able to do. I also experienced significant improvements in my own body, more freedom, feeling calmer and less pain.

In 2009, when the understanding of fascia’s importance was still emerging, I saw the profound impact myofascial release had on my clients and myself. I became motivated to share these benefits more widely, I rebranded my massage therapy practice to exclusively myofascial release and founded North Shore Myofascial Release in Peabody, MA in 2014.

I later relocated the practice from Peabody to my home office in Marblehead during the pandemic. I specialize in helping women out of pain so they can be active, enjoy time with their families, travel comfortably, and age gracefully. This year I’m celebrating 10 years! Reflecting on this journey, I’m proud of the difference I’ve made in empowering women to find natural, lasting relief from pain. Myofascial release addresses the fascia-related problems underlying issues like back pain, headaches, jaw pain and other pain symptoms offering hope and healing to those who thought that they had to live with the pain. Beyond the physical benefits, my practice aims to foster a supportive community where women can share their experiences, learn from one another, and feel empowered in their health and wellness journeys.

What is the best piece of business advice you’ve ever received? The best piece of business advice I ever received was to trust my intuition. Some of the biggest changes I’ve made that had the greatest impact were made by listening to my inner self and taking action based on that guidance.

What is your favorite spot in Marblehead, and why? We’re lucky to have many beautiful spots in Marblehead, but my favorite is Salem Harbor near Village Dock. Living along the harbor, I often go down to listen to the wildlife, watch the boats and read. There are incredible sunsets. Sometimes, I swim, practice yoga or paddleboard. The harbor is part of my daily life. It’s the perfect place to take time for myself and is a source of inspiration.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? People usually aren’t surprised to hear this after they get to know me, but before I started my career in holistic healing, I was a preschool teacher. The experience taught me patience, empathy and the importance of nurturing others, which influences my approach to myofascial release therapy today. I also have a strong creative side! I love to paint and collect items in nature to decorate my house.

Meet Marblehead Natural Healing

Meet Marblehead Natural Healing

Tell us about Marblehead Natural Healing and why you started it. I’ve been a practicing chiropractor for 41 years and opened Marblehead Natural Healing in 2013 when my family moved to Marblehead. I became a chiropractor because my terrible seasonal allergies, menstrual cramps, and acne went away by seeing a chiropractor and I wanted to help others discover the innate healing power in their bodies. I learned a long time ago that bones in the spine misalign due to muscle imbalances and muscle imbalances come from physical injury, repetitive use, poor posture, toxicity, poor nutrition, and/or emotional and mental stress.

My goal is to help people lower accumulated stresses of all types so they create health they can depend on. I use a technique called Applied Kinesiology, a manual muscle testing technique that helps me ‘communicate’ with the body to understand what it needs to heal. I offer chiropractic adjustments, as well as design nutritional programs for strengthening immunity, supporting digestion and bowel health, lowering stress, improving sleep quality, boosting energy and aid in detoxification. Another service I offer is NeuroEmotional Technique, a muscle testing technique that identifies the emotional stress, where it’s located in the body and helps rewrite the brain so that the stressor no longer triggers the fight or flight response. We also offer infrared sauna therapy for detoxification, metabolism boosting and stress reduction as well as BEMER therapy for improving microcirculation and pain reduction.

What is the best piece of business advice you’ve ever received? The best piece of business advice I learned was a model for how to bring Excellence into my business. The model says in order to be Excellent at something you have to start as a beginner. Beginners need mentors to train them how to move towards Excellence. I listed every facet of business on a piece of paper and identified where I could improve. I delegated everything that I wasn’t good at, got trained to get the skills I needed and now have a relatively stress-free business.

What is your favorite spot in Marblehead, and why? I love Front Street from Crocker Park to Fort Sewall. I love swimming near Fort Sewall, watching the fireworks on the 4th of July and sitting by the water at the Landing. It’s pretty perfect.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? Something people would be surprised to know about me is that I tried my hand at stand up comedy years ago. As you can see, I didn’t quit my day job.

Meet Growing Younger Gracefully

Meet Growing Younger Gracefully

Tell us about your Growing Younger Gracefully and why you started it. I’ve always been a curious person, which has led me down some interesting paths in my life. Growing Younger Gracefully was one of those paths. There are two sides of the business – GYG Organic Serums and Yoga for Living with Loss.

  • GYG Organic Serums started because I wanted to brighten and protect my skin. I was seeking an organic, clean, plant-based, face serum that had no chemicals, no   preservatives, and no corporate oversight. I couldn’t find one so, necessity being the mother of invention, I created my own. I researched essential oils, various other ingredients, experimented on myself, family, and friends, and created what is now my line of organic GYG Organic Face & Body & Eye Serums. Each bottle is handcrafted, blessed, eco-friendly, customized, and produced in Marblehead.
  • Yoga for Living with Loss evolved out of my own losses and my dedicated Yoga practice. I realized that grief is not only in our hearts and minds but also physically impacts our energy centers, the chakras. I started leading Yoga for Living with Loss at Care Dimensions and now offer a Yoga for Living with Loss Video Series, live weekly zoom classes, and private sessions for anyone, which is everyone, who is meeting the challenges of the grieving journey. While grief is universal, one’s own grief is completely personal.

What is the best piece of business advice you’ve ever received? I have two. The late great Bill Purdin always said, “Every problem is another opportunity to find a creative solution”. The second one is, “Everything is figure-out-able!”

What is your favorite spot in Marblehead, and why? I love walking to Fort Sewall and sitting on one of the benches. The spacious sky, the everchanging harbor, and the variable weather encourages me to find deep calm and abundant gratitude.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? My degree is in Early Education and I was a first grade teacher!

Helping Women Feel Confident in their Bodies

Helping Women Feel Confident in their Bodies

Tell us about Youtopia Health and Wellness Coaching LLC and why you started it. I have been a Labor and Delivery Nurse and a fitness professional for the past 26 years. I believe today, many people want and need a more personal touch than they can get from mainstream healthcare systems, fitness clubs, or self-improvement apps. I felt called to start Youtopia Health and Wellness Coaching LLC to address these needs and connect with my clients in a deeper, more meaningful way. As a Board-Certified Nurse Coach, I can take time with my clients to connect on a personal level. I value having meaningful conversations and listening deeply to what their needs are. Viewing health through a holistic lens considers the connections between the mind, body, spirit, emotional, and social components of a person’s health. Everything is connected! Nurse Coaching is not one size fits all. Each client is a unique being with their own goals, motivations, and desires. They are experts on their own needs and choices. I enjoy making genuine connections and guiding and supporting clients to discover what health means to them and create an action plan to bring their vision to life. Meeting with a personal coach regularly provides the client with an added level of accountability to not only achieve their goals but also have a lasting impact on their life. I’ve developed a passion for helping women feel confident in their bodies, navigate life transitions, and prepare for the unique demands of pregnancy and beyond. It brings me so much joy to be a part of this transformational journey!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is, “Progress over perfection”.

What is your favorite spot in Marblehead? Fort Sewall. The views are so beautiful and bring me peace.  My husband and I walk to Fort Sewall a few times a week, sit on the bench, and admire the beauty of the North Shore. It’s a sensory experience for me.  The sights, the sounds of the waves, birds, and boats going by, feeling the wind on my skin, and the smell of the ocean are so refreshing and rejuvenating.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? Fun fact: I once starred in a BOSE training video with my husband.

Meet Creative Spirit

Meet Creative Spirit

Tell us about Creative Spirit and why you started it. I started Creative Spirit to provide fun, inspiring, and safe opportunities for folks to connect with their innate creativity, which we all have! Over the years, I’ve offered expressive arts-based workshops exploring a range of topics, including intuitive painting, writing, collage, and intuitive dance. I also partner with MacRae’s Sustainable Goods, here in town, to host themed, non-juried art exhibits in which everyone is permitted to show their artwork. I’m most excited about my brand-new offering – creativity coaching – which is a one-on-one coaching service designed to help individuals step into their creative dreams, work through any fears, and bring to life a creative goal or project. Read more about this offering at www.creativespiritma.com/creativity-coaching.

With the holidays just around the corner, I am thrilled to announce that Creative Spirit is presenting A Christmas Carol again. The staged reading in the historic Jeremiah Lee Mansion is back for the 4th year of holiday fun and theatre magic. Come be entertained by this lively and theatrical reading of Charles Dickens’ classic story about the power of love and generosity. Tickets can be purchased at www.creativespiritma.com/christmas-carol.

What is the best piece of business advice you’ve ever received? When I was thinking about starting Creative Spirit (and signing my first storefront lease), a LOT of fear rose within me.  I had a wonderful support group around me who encouraged me to just do it and live my dream.  Afterall, life begins at the edge of our comfort zone!

What is your favorite spot in Marblehead, and why? I love being outside in Marblehead. My favorite spot is on the water on our sailboat.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? I’m a recovering perfectionist! And while I love to be creatively free, I also need things to be a certain way – especially when making art. It’s a beautiful dance of honoring my habits (fears) and just surrendering to divine flow. That’s what life is about!
